Jukebox the Ghost and Barenaked Ladies

Few bands can claim they are iconic of the era now known to us as the 1990's, but the Barenaked Ladies are one of the few who can deservedly claim that crown. On the tail of the release of their new album, 'All in Good Time,' the Barenaked Ladies returned to Saint Louis' Pageant to play to a sold out crowd.

Personal favorites, Jukebox the Ghost, were the warm up act for the night, and they fit the mood perfectly. Finding an opening act for such an established band is a difficult task, and most people aren't in the mood for anything new, but the whole crowd was quiet and attentive during Jukebox the Ghost's set. Their style of music and their sense of humor fit perfectly into the show. Their set, at 30 minutes, almost felt too short, something to be proud of as an opening band. Jukebox the Ghost definitely picked up some new fans during their stop in Saint Louis and cemented their status as 'the next big thing.'

The audience was entirely seated, something that is quite new for the Pageant. The crowd, although diverse in age, was well-behaved and completely attentive, only a few people were up and dancing. The fans were definitely their to hear the hits, but didn't seem to mind when the band took some time to play songs off their new album, even if the audience didn't know the words.

Barenaked Ladies are well known for their humor in their songs as well as their act. They bantered with the audience and said kind things about Saint Louis and even made up some raps and jingles as they played through their set. At one point, they played a medley of current pop hits including Jay-Z, Katy Perry, and Black Eyed Peas.

Anyone who is a fan of sitcom TV will know that the Barenaked Ladies lend their musical talents to the theme song of CBS' 'Big Bang Theory,' and the crowd was excited to hear it. Although the big hits were played, the Barenaked Ladies have such an extensive discography, a lot of their lesser hits were swept under the carpet, something the crowd almost definitely noticed.

The night ended on a high albeit somber note with 'Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel,' one of their most brilliant songs to date. The show was fun and light hearted, and reminded the audience how talented Barenaked Ladies really are.
